Matcha
08/14/2014

Matcha is a green tea that is in a powdered form. When it grows it is shaded to keep the chlorophyll from escaping. We all know they recommend green tea for good health due to the EGCG levels and antioxidants matcha has much higher levels by making it higher in antioxidants than blueberries. In fact it has more then a dozen times more antioxidants then blueberries. There is clinical studies indicating that the theanine levels in green tea can moderate mental health and stress. Antioxidants are known to slow down aging and possibly reverse some signs of aging. There have been studies showing eating blueberries could prevent alztiemers because of the high level of antioxidants and matcha has the highest ORAC levels of antioxidants. Match also helps with energy levels.

You can add matcha powder to smoothies for an added boost but traditionally it is whisked with hot water. I prefer it in smoothies it doesnt mix well with water. It never fully dissolves. I have used it in a water bottle and just kept shaking it. You can add a little stevia but make sure you are using a true stevia extract and not a mix.

Matcha is expensive and to get a good quality you will have to go to a tea store which are everywhere now. It should be bright green if it has any brown and smells like hay it will not have the benefits. They recommend 4 tsp a day anymore could make you jumpy it does have caffiene in it. I have been using matcha religiously for 2 years and do see a difference even with my concentration. When I dont take it for a few days or a week I do see my energy levels going down.
