SS16 Fashion Week Trend The Golden Age
11/07/2015

SS16 Fashion Week Recap

My recap of SS16 Fashion Week from NYFW to STLFW

I am a retro girl at heart and couldn't be happier with the 30's/40's inspired trends for Spring. This spring trade your 70's glamour retro look for the Golden Age of Hollywood, don't throw out your 70's yet it will still be sprinkled in for the next season. I am an old soul that is obsessed with old Hollywood and old movies, my 'hero' at the ripe old age of 10 was Katherine Hepburn so I am so excited about this era being revived. In the 40's women were strong, working in factories while their husbands were off at war but never giving up on their femininity with a great strong red lip and tea length dresses. It seems fitting that while we are again discussing equal rights for women and lifting the ban on tourism to Cuba we are looking to that time to inspire fashion.

Marc Jacobs has done an amazing job of mixing 70's glam and 90's grunge with the Golden Age of Hollywood. Sounds crazy but he has made it work in an amazing unique collection that I am lusting for.

Marc Jacobs using 90's grunge from the red plaid to a distressed sweater via 40's Old Hollywood Glam and some how it works. He is a true artist.

STLFW I saw influences of the 40's with a modern feel and some Havana Nights circa 30's/40's. There was a romantic bohomian in light softer feel a far contrast from this Falls Gothic Boho. Designers were focusing on structure of the garment over patterns and being a self proclaimed modern minimalist I was thrilled to see.

Calvin Klien mixes the 90's slip dress with a little 40's glam while staying true to the minimalist chic look we love about this house.

Proenza Schouler cropped top with high waisted pants making a cropped top sophisticated.

Boss embraces the era with an amazing Navy retro 30's dress that is reminesent of pictures of my grandmother when she was a young woman.

Shopping Tips:

The internet has given us access to information that typically only buyers, influencers and the elite had access to. A few of the advantages is the ability to comb through end of season sales to find items that will translate the trends on a budget as well as knowing which trends to buy today. Being an educated buyer allows you to make better choices so investigate take notes, save images of what you love and create a wish/want list so you can make the most of your budget. Just make sure that you always stay true to your personal style and within your comfort zone.
