1940's Inspired Holiday Look

1940’s Inspired Holiday Look

It's officially Holiday Season and the beginning of endless holiday events from brunch with your girlfriends to the dreaded company party. If you're like me your budget is spread a little thin so going out and buying new outfits for these occasions is out of the question. Since I'm still in my no shopping project I will be shopping my closet but I'm up for the challenge, who knows it might even be fun.

I have a serious addiction to old movies, especially the 1940’s and this look is a nod to my love of Old Hollywood. Don't turn your nose up to the idea of thrift or consignment shopping, sometimes you find amazing pieces like this Oscar de le Renta Cardigan and the vintage Clutch by Armani. The best tip I can give you is to buy from reliable vendors and only buy it if you love it. Don't get caught up in the label or how cheap it is, only buy what you love in fact that should always be the rule got everything you buy or do.

Dress for the event, it's a Parisian rule that we really need to embrace. Substance over fashion, if it's 10 degrees out dress for it. Skip the slinky slip dress with stilettos and wear a sweater, skirt and rising boots. You can't look good if you feel uncomfortable so if you're going to be on your feet for hours wear flats, trust me you will thank me later. Don't be a fashion victim, style has substance, it's who you are and it doesn't wear a summer dress in the dead of winter. As the Parisian woman says ‘she does not follow fashion, fashion follows her’.
